Palma de Gandia

Palma de Gandia is a typical Spanish pueblo with most people speaking Spanish or Valenciano - if you have a smattering of French you will find some words sound like French words.  Local people are used to our sign language Our neighbours are Spanish and are all retired: its a quiet and peaceful area.

Wifi is available at the Casa de Culture nearby.

Just 2 minutes away is the bakery where Jose and Rosa will welcome you: not far to go for your warm croissants in the morning and for squigy cakes in the afternoon. The butcher is nearby (about 3 minutes) and next door a small Spar type shop. There is also a chemist, a doctor and dentist. An very nice open air swimming pool is open during the summer months.

Palma (for short) has quite a few little bars (including an English bar) that serve tapas and a Chinese takeaway. Bar Palma provides home cooked meals both at lunchtime and evening and 10 minutes walk away Mama will welcome you to Aventura (home cooking too) where they offer an extensive menu and square pizza. On the Gandia to Oliva road, Viva Espana where at weekends there will be a flamenco floor show . We can recommend the paella.

If you happen to miss your football, both Bar Palma and Aventura have TV!

If you wish to cook for yourselves Oliva has a market Friday morning (promptly shuts at 1.00pm) where you will be amazed at the fresh vegetables and fruit on offer. There are also supermarkets: Carrefour, Mecadona, Euroski etc. in Gandia and Oliva)

The nearest beaches are Bellregard/Piles/Miramar - 5kms.

Gandia is 5km where there are numerous shops, malls and historical sights. There is also a multi screen cinema. The old historical part of the city is pedestrianised where you can walk and enjoy the atmosphere - the centre has a paseo where you can stop and watch the world go by. A road links Gandia city with the beach area which is a small suburb with shops, a couple of supermarkets, cafes and bars.

If you still haven't done enough walking for the day, try the promenade -stop off at the various cafe/bars and ice cream parlours!
